In this chapter you have learned how your brain's tendencies prevent you from listening properly, and what you can do to counteract those tendencies.
Now it is time to put what you have learned into action.
Pay attention to attention this week. Aim to notice what pulls your attention away when you are interacting with others.
Focus your attention by practising broadening your awareness. Try to pay attention to new things such as facial expressions, tone of voice, gestures and even your own feelings. See what else you notice and how that can enrich your interactions.
Build your listening skills by looking out for your brain's habit of Problem solving, Relating, Waiting to respond, Focusing on details, Judging and choosing to Expand your curiosity to avoid judgement instead.
Write down your key learnings from this chapter and your observations on how you interact with others throughout the week. Take them to your learning group meeting to discuss. You will find a guide for this session along with the key takeaways from this chapter in the Resources area, in the header bar.
In the next chapter you will learn how to ask great open-ended questions.
Take a break before the next chapter. We'll be ready for you when you are back.
